History of Panerai Watches
With a history dating back over 160 years, Giovanni Panerai founded his watch shop Officine Panerai in Florence, Italy. His grandson Guido expanded his grandfather's shop and became the official supplier to the Royal Italian Navy. Rolex SA designed and manufactured all Panerai wristwatches except for the GPF 2/56.
Between the mid-1930s and 1970s, Giuseppe Panerai helped produce the first diving watches for professionals with the Marina Militare. The dials on the watches provide a luminous glow with Radiomir and Luminor. In 1993, Panerai stopped offering dive watches to the Marina and started selling its products on the market.
